Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is one of the three Federal Universities of Agriculture in Nigeria established to accelerate the drive towards national food security and rural development, in addition to providing functional education in a range of science-based disciplines in order to make their graduates self-reliant job and wealth creators. The institution is located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research City of Umudike, about 10 kilometres from Umuahia. The University is rapidly evolving as a centre of excellence where training, research and community service for the achievement of national development goals and global relevance are emphasized in an atmosphere that promotes social cohesion and responsible citizenship.
A vacancy for the post of the Registrar will occur in the University with effect from April 26, 2011. Applications to fill the vacancy are hereby invited from suitably qualified persons.
Position: Registrar
The Candidate
- Prospective candidates should have a good first degree, preferably in the humanities, social sciences and related disciplines.
- Possession of higher degree(s) will be an advantage.
- Such candidates must have adequate administrative experience, preferably in the university system, and should have served as Deputy Registrar or equivalent for at least five (5) years. Candidates must not only be ICT-compliant but must also demonstrate capacity to involve and integrate 1CT skills in normal university administrative and management functions.
- Applicants would be expected to show dynamism and flexibility in organising and managing the human resources component of the administrative arm of the institution in order to provide the needed strategic support for the achievement of the University’s objectives. Candidates for the post must be such that they would not exceed the gazetted retirement age before the end of the five-year tenure.
Duties:
- The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University, responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the University, except as regards matters for which the Bursar is responsible. Importantly, the Registrar is also Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.
