Summary Scope of work

The SIF provides technical support for the implementation, and monitoring of service delivery strategies and activities at the level of HFS. S/He provides support for ensuring that Project activities are in line with USAID strategic priorities in high impact service delivery. S/he will work with the LGA health coordinator and managers and providers in the HF to ensure that project’s strategies for the delivery of high impact services are implemented. In particular training to service providers S/he will be responsible for continuous post training supervision and on-the-job training to service providers. S/he will be responsible for ensuring providers keep to standard of practices and observe the use of service protocols. In collaboration with the state ministries of health (SMOH), LGAs and other partners, the Zonal SIF will assist in defining critical training needs and organizing in-service LGA training activities. The SIF will work in conjunction with the Supportive Supervision Team to continuously provide supervision at the health facility level,

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate use of SOPs and protocols by service providers
  • Ensure the use of standing orders by PHC staff
  • Identify and address issues that affect delivery of quality health services (such as commodity stock-outs, lack of or inadequate availability of required materials and equipment, and service provider skills, and take initiatives in solving those, in collaboration with the SMOH/LGAs;
  • Conduct supportive supervision, including the provision of proper On-the-Job Training (OJT)
  • Implement an improvement plan for service delivery points within the zone, and implement and monitor SBM-R initiatives in assigned HFs
  • Support FP/RH compliance based on the Tiahrt amendment
  • Ensure logistics management systems (LMS) are in place and provide regular supply of commodities to minimize stockouts in the assigned LGA zones, ensure timely submission and accuracy of reports
  • Manage service improvement activities in the assigned IGA zones, ensure timely submission and accuracy of reports
  • Contribute to writing of the quarterly report sections especially in the area of quality assurance, including identifying success stories and keeping a photographic and written record of field activity highlights
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Required Qualifications

  • A Senior Nurse Midwife with 10 years of clinical practice experience including experience with teaching, preception, health management demonstrated ability to be both a team player and to lead teams and to organize multiple and simultaneous sets of activities.
  • Strong clinical skills and demonstrated good supervisory skills
  • Clear understanding of public health issues and challenges in Northern Nigeria.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; ability to produce accurate reports and data on activities.
  • Excellent communication skills in local languages; ability to give clear instructions; good English writing skill is an asset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively in the field
