The MRC Unit, The Gambia is the Medical Research .Council’s largest establishment conducting laboratory, field based and clinical research in a developing country. The Unit wish to recruit a Head of Transport who will work with the Heads of Department/Projects/Themes for the safe, reliable and efficient transportation of staff, visitors and goods. He/she will also regularly supervise/interact J with the Garage Manager to ensure continued availability of the vehicles and motorbikes for MRC activities.
Position: Head of Transport
We are looking for someone that has significant presence, determination and influence to improve the quality and standards of the transport services for the MRC Unit with:
- HNC/HND or degree in Transport Management,
- Logistics or Operations Management from a recognized institute.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Previous experience managing a large transport fleet (40+ vehicles).
- A good understanding of vehicle/motorbike maintenance & repairs.
- Proven staff management experience.
- Proven experience of managing a busy
- Garage/Transport Department.
- Experience in writing reports and preparing duty rosters.
- Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Excellent written and spoken English,
- Ability to motivate staff and to develop high performing teams.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team,
- Ability to keep to tight deadlines,
- Ability to set high personal standards,
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work outside of working hours.
- Willingness to regularly travel upcountry.
- Category A, B & C Driving Licence.
Although not essential, experience using a Fleet Management System, fluency in 2 local languages and a. Category D driving licence would be an advantage.
The appointment will be for 3 years and is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
The salary will be in Occupational Group E1/E2 dependent on qualifications and experience. For displaced staff the package will include rent-free furnished accommodation, lights, contribution to school fees and shipment of personal effects.
