Vacancies: Program Manager, Assistant Program Officer
An International Non-Governmental Organization currently implementing a program to improve the participation of key Nigerian stakeholders in the electoral process is looking for Nigerian citizens to fill positions within its offices in Abuja, Nigeria. These stakeholders include: political parties; election authorities; media; and marginalized voter groups such as women, youth and persons with disabilities. Increasing and improving electoral participation is crucial to improving electoral credibility. The program’s specific objectives are to:
- Strengthen the capacity of political parties to more effectively and responsibly participate in the electoral process,
- Strengthen capacity of domestic observers and party agents to monitor national and state elections.
- Enhance the democratic role of and use of new and traditional media in the political process.
- To promote stakeholder dialogues on the electoral process.
Position: Program Manager (PM)
Reporting: The PM reports to the Country Director
Duties and responsibilities
- Take lead in the design and implementation of the political party program to improve the capacity of political parties to more effectively and responsibly participate in the electoral process
- Take lead in the design and implementation of programs to improve the participation and capacity of women and youth in political par ties and political activism.
- Assist the Country Director in the project management and administration of specific project activities
- Liaise with political parties, elected officials and civil society organizations in respect of project activities and programs
- Participate in the design and implementation of training programs as well as coordination of workshops, trainings, dialogues and conferences
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree preferred in governance, development, social sciences, or project management,
- At least 8 years work experience with an NGO, or appropriate internationally recognized institution, with experience in gender mainstreaming and work with underrepresented groups
- Strong understanding of Nigeria’s political system and political parties
- At least 3 years proven management experience at senior level
- Experience in leading and motivating staff including developing staff potential
- Experience in design, and evaluating democratic governance programs
- Experience in building and fostering relationships as well as capacity to communicate fluently with different stakeholders (civil society, media, government, political parties and staff)
- Strong networking and analytical skills, particularly in issues related to monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in staff management, capacity building, including training, mentoring, and coaching.
- Demonstrable written and oral communication skills, including writing donor reports
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft
- Proven integrity, objectivity and professional competence; demonstrated sensitivity to cultural diversity, PWD and gender issues.
Position: Assistant Program Officer (APO) Women’s Programs
Reporting: The APO reports to the Country Director
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and implementation of the women’s program activities to improve the participation and capacity of women in political parties and political activism.
- Assist the Country Director in the management of specific project activities
- Liaise with political parties, elected officials and civil society organizations in respect of project activities related to the women’s programs
- Take lead in the coordination and facilitation of training workshops and conferences
