Logistics Advisor (Calabar) at John Snow, Inc.

John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a US based international public health consulting firm that manages four projects/contracts through its integrated office in Abuja, Nigeria. Through the Partnership for Supply Chain Management consortium, JSI implements the Supply Chain Management System (SCMS) project for the US Government as part of the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The purpose is to establish and operate a safe, secure, reliable and sustainable supply chain management system to procure pharmaceutical and other products needed for the care and treatment of persons with HIV/AIDS and related infections. JSI implements the USAID /DELIVER PROJECT, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a global technical assistance project aimed at increasing the availability of essential health supplies through procurement services and assistance designed to strengthen health commodity supply chains in developing countries.

 

JSI is looking to employ qualified individuals for the following position:

 

Position:     Logistics Advisor (Calabar)

 

Numbers of Persons Required: (4)

 

The Logistics Advisor (Calabar) will support HIV/AIDS supply chain unification pilot technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), PEPFAR implementing partners, Global Fund supported partners, health facilities and other stakeholders in five states (Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers) and other locations as appropriate. Under the supervision of the Senior Logistics Advisor/Team Leader for the project in Calabar, the Logistics Advisor will work in collaboration with other organizations that provide support services in logistics management information system, warehousing and distribution to the SCMS project in support of the unification pilot project.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to ensure that health facilities covered under the unification pilot are adequately supplied with appropriate health commodities
  • Serve as the link between PEPFAR implementing partners, FMOH and Global Fund/NACA partners and the warehouse to ensure that commodities supplies to health facilities are seamless
  • Work with the Distribution and Order Fulfillment Advisor to review LMIS reports and determine facility requirements
  • Provide support to the Team Leader on forecasting and supply planning using relevant supply chain tools to make timely decisions
  • Support coordination of supply chain activities for timely receipt of reports from implementing partners, processing  of reports and filling of requirements to ensure that health facilities are re-supplied with appropriate commodities
  • Collaborate with implementing partners to organize monitoring and support visits to health facilities and provide the needed support for smooth implementation of supply chain activities in the pilot and other locations
  • Support the coordination of distribution activities for timely supply of commodities to facilities
  • Support capacity building activities for the Government of Nigeria counterparts and other stakeholders on supply chain activities
  • Support the activities of the distribution service providers to ensure timely supply of the right products to health facilities
  • Contribute to the identification of best practices and success stories for JSI Nigeria’s quarterly logistics bulletin
  • Contribute to routine monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to program funders
  • Work with other advisors and short-term technical assistance providers to provide required technical assistance for activities and facilitate transfer of skills to staff
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

 

Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position should possess the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in pharmacy, public health, laboratory science, logistics management or business administration
  • 3-5 years professional experience in health programs, preferably in an international health care supply chain management environment
  • Specific experience in HIV/AIDS,TB, or malaria programs is strongly desired
  • Ability to monitor, supervise and provide support to health facilities in supply chain activities
  • Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian public health sector
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent technical writing and oral presentation skills are highly desired
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability and willingness to travel in the field,
