Project Summary
The FHI 360 Four Pillars PLUS “Improving Girls Secondary Education” in Nigeria project aims to improve the quality and relevance of secondary education for girls and other vulnerable children (OVC) and boost retention rates in Benue State, Nigeria. The project will offer scholarships, girls’ mentoring, teacher training, and encourage community participation to address the complex barriers to education for girls and OVCs. The project will also support the transition of girls from secondary school to the formal workforce with training and internships. This is a 3 year project with funds provided annually.
Position: Gender Mentoring Specialist
Location: Benue

The Gender/Mentoring Specialist will train and support a cadre of girls’ mentors in project schools. S/He will ensure that mentoring sessions in project schools are being executed as planned. The specialist will assist in the monthly report and work plan preparation; organize and execute mentor training workshop coordination; monitor and evaluate mentor training; research and provide support to the Project Officer and facilitate the creation and sustaining of girls mentoring sessions and prepare for additional activities of supporting secondary schools and implementing internship and Vocational Training programs.
Minimum Recruitment Standards:
- Candidates must have B.Sc. in International Development, Gender Studies, Social Science, Education or equivalent MSc. preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in the field of gender and education with expertise in girls education
- Experience in implementing gender strategies and programming preferably with youth
- Experience in guidance and counseling, preferably career guidance
- Must be able to provide three references from previous employment or university.
Position: Teacher Trainer/ Education Specialist
Location: Benue

The Teacher Trainer/Education Specialist will be responsible for working closely with FHI 360 team members in Benue to implement the main objectives of the project: to improve the quality and relevance of girls’ education and boost retention rates for OVCs in select LGAs in Benue State. The Specialist is responsible for working closely with teachers school officials, school administrators, and local education officials to ensure that teachers are trained in pedagogy, gender sensitivity, and other subjects, especially Math and Science, as needed. S/He will follow up with teachers in the classroom on a periodic basis to provide additional support to teachers’ use of methods learned during training.
Minimum Recruitment Standards:
- Candidates must possess B.Sc. in Education, or a HND in Teacher Training and/or Education
- A relevant second degree will be an added advantage
- Minimum of 5 years work experience
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, and other email systems
- Must be able to provide three references from previous employment or university
Position: Community Mobilization Specialist
Location: Benue

The Community Mobilization Specialist will be responsible for working closely with the FHI 360 team members in Benue State, to implement the main objectives of the project; to improve the quality and relevance of girls’ education and to boost retention rates for OVCs in selected LGAs of Benue State, Nigeria, S/He will be responsible for working closely with the school officials, school management committees, local education officials, local community leaders, beneficiaries’ parents/caretakers and other stakeholders to ensure that the project gains sustainable support within the community.
Minimum Recruitment Standards:
- Candidates must possess B.Sc,/ HND in sociology, social work or community development
- Must be computer literate (MS Office Packages/ Internet)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position
- Must be able to provide three references from previous employment or University
