The Nigerian Tourism and Hospitality
A State Government in Nigeria recently partnered with the Mantis Collection Group to manage a Cold and Warm Springs Resort. This is a landmark that leverages the unique position the State in the tourism and hospitality industry and enables a diversified economic base. The Resort project is envisioned to deliver a 3 and 5-star hotel environment complete with conferencing facilities, a heliport, golf course and business resort, and is located around a famous Warm Spring in the South-Western part of Nigeria.
As part of its start-up initiatives the State Government intends to recruit competent and suitably qualified professionals to fill various positions in the Warm Springs Resort.
Position: Community Relations Officer-WSR0011
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate shall serve as:
- The link man between the host community and the Resort management on issues affecting the tourist centre, management and visitors.
- He/she will promote good relationship between the Resort management and the community.
Specifically, the candidate will:
- Bring to the notice of the Management all issues that need urgent attention affecting the Resort project and the community
- Ensure that all visitors coming to the tourist centre are well received and treated by the community
- Alert the Management as quickly as possible on issues that may bring misunderstanding between the contractor/management of the tourist centre and the community
- Perform any other functions assigned by the management of the Warm Spring Resort
Qualifications, skills and experience
- A good first degree, preferably in any Social Sciences discipline from a reputable institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry.
- Native of the Warm Spring Resort Community.
- Experience in managing the government, external or community relations of any reputable multinational organisation.
- Proven ability in liaising with community groups/interests, handling communications, settling disputes, etc.
- Knowledge of HSE and regulatory requirements.
- Good communication, problem-solving, interpersonal and people skills.
Position: Management Trainees – WSR0012
The successful candidates for these positions will be trained after selection, for operational and other levels of management. They will be placed in various departments on training schedules to learn on the job for minimum periods of one (1) to two (2) years. The ideal candidates will have the following requirements:
Qualifications:
- A good first degree in any discipline from a reputable institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year hands-on experience in any role in the hospitality industry.
- Experience in guest relations and customer service.
- Good attitude, work ethics, discipline, comportment and above all, integrity.
- Excellent communication skills and proper use of language
- Courteous manners, decent & presentable personal appearance with good grooming
Position: General Staff-WSR0013
These include but are not limited to Reception staff, Conference/Event staff, Porters, Drivers, Cleaners, Housekeepers, Laundrymen, Store Officers, Waiters, Waitresses, Barmen, Chef, Cooks, Gardeners, Grounds staff, Maintenance staff, Security Officers, Life Guards, First Aiders, etc.
Reporting to their respective HODs, the ideal candidates will have the following general requirements:
Qualifications
- Minimum of SSCE qualification.
- Minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience in similar roles in the hospitality industry.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the technical aspects of their different roles.
- Experience in guest relations and customer service.
- Good attitude, work ethics, discipline, comportment and above all, integrity.
- Up-to-date knowledge of latest trends in their respective jobs.
- Good communication skills and proper use of language
- Courteous manners, decent & presentable personal appearance with good grooming
Specific Requirements
Reception Staff: Strong IT and book-keeping skills
Drivers: Valid driver’s licence, trade test certification and must have a minimum of ten (10) years driving experience with no accident record, readiness to undergo driving test
Laundrymen: Proven ability to operate laundry machinery, work under pressure
Store Officers: Demonstrable experience in buying & purchase and knowledge of supply processes
Waiters/Waitresses: Good IT and book-keeping skills
Chef: Good experience in overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations, controls and staff management
Kitchen Cooks: Adequate exposure to both Nigerian and Continental dishes
Maintenance staff: Relevant certifications i.e. trade test I – III in Electrical, Mechanical, A/C & Refrigeration, Plumbing, Carpentry works, etc.
First Aiders: Basic First Aid Training certification
Life Guards: Swimming experience
Security Officers: Good height and build, previous work experience with any security or law enforcement agency
