Introduction:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Rector, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.

Brief History of the Institution:

The institution was established in 1976 as College of Technology by the then Sokoto State Government and became a Polytechnic of Sokoto State in 1980. With the creation of Kebbi State in 1991, the institution became The Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi and later Waziri Umaru Polytechnic in 2002. Following the take-over of the institution by the Federal Government in 2007, it became Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic. Presently, the institution operates on two campuses with four Colleges comprising 10 Schools and 28 academic departments with 51 accredited programmes.

 Position: Rector

The Rector:

The Rector is the Chief Executive Officer of the Polytechnic responsible to the Governing Council as provided for in Decree No. 33 of 1979 and amended by Decree No. 5 of 1993 of the Federal Polytechnics Act. As the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic, he/she is responsible for all matters relating to the day-to­day management and operations of the Polytechnic. The post became vacant on 29^th December, 2012.

Qualities and Qualifications:

Interested candidates for the post are expected to possess the following academic qualification and personal qualities:

1. Must hold a minimum of a Masters degree from a recognized institution in areas relevant to any of the programmes offered in the Polytechnic.
2. Must be a Chief Lecturer of not less than 5 years experience on the rank from the Polytechnic sector.
3. Must not be more than 55 years of age.
4. Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic, administrative and visionary leadership.
5. Must provide evidence of membership of professional body(ies).
6. Must provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars and workshops.
7. Must be proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
8. Must be fair-minded and dynamic individual with impeccable reputation.
9. Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health (with evidence from a government hospital).
10. Must be morally sound, impeccable character and free from financial embarrassment.
11. Must be able to attract research and development grants to the Polytechnic.
12. A person who is not likely to pursue racial, ethnic, political, religious or other sectional interests.

5.       Terms of Appointment

The appointment is for an initial period of four (4) years, and renewable subject to satisfactory performance for another term of four (4) years and no more. The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy other benefits of the office as may be approved from time to time by the Federal Government.
