Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), a non-profit non-governmental organization with Regional Office in Addis Ababa, works  to promote the development , demonstration and  widespread adoption of improved food production and post-production technologies for  smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, Mali Nigeria & Uganda. This  is being pursued in partnership with government agricultural extension service, machine service providers and other stakeholders.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below

Position: Accountant, SG2000

Location: Nigeria Kano Office

Job Description:

  • The Accountant works under the supervision of the Office Manager and the  Country Director, and is tasked  to:
  • Ensure adherence to  SAA’s and local Government financial procudres, regulations  and generally Accepted Accountant Principle;
  • Prepare payment documents for all payments as approved in the  budget to be made through pretty cash system or cheque payments;
  • Confirm that purchases is included in an approved budget and remaining funds are sufficient to make the purchase, review all questions received and  get approval;
  • Code transactions  and enter in the computer system; and prepare regular  reports as required and  present for supervisions;
  • Prepare bank reconciliations on monthly and financial statement on weekly basis
  • Compile foreign exchange rates on daily basis
  • Prepare payroll for employees on monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly tax returns for payroll taxes withholding taxes, etc
  • Follow up regular bills such as electricity, water and telephone
  • Prepare financial statements and  relevant schedules for external auditors
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned by management.

Qualification

  • The candidate must possess and HND or B.Sc in Accountancy
  • Possession of other professional/academic qualification(s) is an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years work experience
  • Has the ability to work productively in team environment and independently, and willing to meet unexpected demands
  • Demonstrate competence in a variety of computer applications including spreadsheets, peachtree and word processing (peachtree a must).
