Office Bookkeeper at The West Africa Solidarity Center

The West Africa Solidarity Center (www.solidaritycenter.org), a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and protecting worker rights, is looking to hire an office book keeper. Position: Office Bookkeeper

 

Summary of Position:

  • The basic responsibility of the Office bookkeeper is to assist the day-to-day financial affairs of the Solidarity Center office in an efficient manner,
  • She / he serves as the support resource to the Finance Officer in monitoring and controlling budget vs project(s) spending and ensuring the office’s compliance with policy and procedures of the organization,
  • S/he also assists the Finance Officer in ensuring compliance with all host government laws and regulations.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.       Assisting Finance Officer in completing bank reconciliations, handling of cash on hand, payments, replenishment, cash receipts log and keeping receipts.

2.       Handling bank operations (cash disbursements, PAYE, Pension and National Housing Fund remittances) including wire transfer requests

3.       Prepares payment vouchers, checks, payroll summary.

4.       Enter all financial transactions in QuickBooks software.

5.       Prepare monthly forms in Excel.

6.       Prepare or assist in preparation and submission of tax returns.

7.       Prepare and maintain inventory of ail office furniture and equipment. Assure that all equipment, furniture and furnishing are property maintained.

8.       Operate office equipment such as photocopier fax machine, computers, etc.

9.       Conducts annual vendor comparison analysis as required.

10.     Order office supplies and training materials. Handling cash disbursements to activities participants and Facilitators

11.     Purchase office supplies and equipment. Follow procurement requirements as needed

12.     Assist in planning and arranging logistic for workshop activities/events including negotiation with hotel for venue, participant’s travel arrangements, and other seminar arrangements

13.     Maintain personnel records pertaining to salary, benefits and leave records.

14.     Maintain office records, filing, retrieval, retention

15.     Keep control of and report all petty cash transactions.

16.     Know the Policies, Procedures and Practices necessary to conduct the normal function of each of the specific section, unit or work area within the office of the Solidarity Center.

17.     Other duties as assigned by the CPD

 

 

Basic Qualifications/Experience:    

  • A University degree in accounting from a recognized institution with at least 2    years of work experience as an accountant; Experience with NGOs would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of local tax laws; Strong knowledge and work experience in computer programs (Windows, Word, Excel); working knowledge of accounting QuickBooks software;
  • Administrative and organizational skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of English is a must (speaking, writing);
  • Detail oriented;
  • Capable to work under pressure and meeting deadlines;
  • Experience on budget preparation and control,
