Background
The Sasakawa Africa Association /Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG2000), a non-profit non-governmental organization with its office in Nigeria, promotes demonstration and widespread adoption of improved pre and post-production agricultural technologies for smallholder farmers in Nigeria in collaboration with relevant government institutions, farmers’ organizations and private sector.
Sasakawa Africa Association would like to recruit a qualified candidate from Nigerian nationals for the following position:
Position: Program Officer, Farmers Based Organization (FBOs)
Work background
The Program Officer will be responsible for consolidating existing cooperatives and scaling up the formation of more producer cooperatives in Nigeria.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of and technical backstopping from SAFE Coordinator and SG2000 Country Director, the core role of the PO will be to:
- Inventorize the current functional FBOs in SAA-SAFE project areas
- Strengthen the capacity of FBOs in cooperative management and leadership
- Create a data bank on BDS that are relevant to existing FBOs
- Engage FBOs in developing viable agro-based businesses.
- Prepare work plan, budget and regular reports to supervisors and donors.
- Any other work to be assigned by SAFE Coordinator OR SM Country Director.
Job Requirements
Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities
- B. Sc. degree in Cooperative Management, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Marketing and accounting or related fields
- M.Sc in the above fields will be an added advantage,
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience in cooperative organization and management
- Proven skill in communication in English (writing, presentation, reporting, etc)
- Working knowledge in the use of computer Software such as Word, Power Point and Excel.
- Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder working environments.
Conditions and remuneration
- Contract for one year, with possibility of extension depending on performance and availability of funds.
- Duty station is Abuja and Kano, with frequent travel within the country.
- Salary based on the organization scale
