Position: Registrar/Chief Executive (Ref: 1C1)

 

The position reports to the Council and has primary responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership of the Institute with focus promoting the interests of members and the profession of accounting in Nigeria while ensuring cost-effectiveness in the daily implementation of programmes and plans

 

Key Accountabilities:

The position is directly responsible for:

  • Providing visionary leadership to ensure sustainable growth in the Institute’s scope of operations and professional influence on the management of economic and financial resources at the National and international levels
  • Coordinating the formulation, articulation and implementation of the Council’s policy decisions, operational plans and strategies for delivering the Institute’s mandate
  • Communicating the vision and mission objectives of the institute to the management and staff
  • Providing effective administrative oversight of the Secretariat and ensuring compliance with the requirements of IBWA, IFAC and other local and inter national affiliates profession in Nigeria through research on topical and policy driven issues relating to economic, financial and regulatory imperatives.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership for the development of a highly effective and efficient Research and Technical Directorate ensuring response to long term needs of professional accountants
  • Initiates and undertakes research activities on topical, financial and economic issues aimed at enhancing the scope and quality of research conducted by the Institute
  • Ensures regular publication of high quality technical journals and memoirs
  • Networks with senior researchers and academics as well as with national, regional and International institutions, to ensure continued relevance of research activities and a high profile for ICAN
  • Establishes and actively maintains close links with national policy research institutes to promote research relevant to the accounting profession within their structures and frontier research into issues of interest to ICAN and its members
    Preparing and presenting regular feedback and report to the council and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring correct interpretation and application of legislations affecting the accountancy profession
  • Building and ensuring the entrenchment of an appropriate corporate culture that aligns with the Institute’s values anchored on excellence, integrity and professionalism
  • Organising all Council meetings and providing required information to guide deliberations
  • Acting as the primary custodian of all legislations to be administered and complied by the Institute and the profession with relevant international and local bodies

 

Skills/Competencies

  • The role calls for strong and visionary leadership capabilities, excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills as well as sound grasps of industry, regulatory and policy dynamics. The person must be decisive and innovative with very good communication skills and strong hands-on experience of conflict resolution, performance, project and change management. The ideal person must be self driven and goal focused with a strong sense of professional integrity in public engagement.

 

Experience & Qualifications

  • A good University Degree
  • Member of the Institute at a grade not less than a Fellow
  • Post graduate qualifications (MBA) and other relevant professional qualification will be added advantage
  • Minimum of twenty (20) years experience of which five (5) years
  • Must have been spent at top management level in a similar industry

 

 

Position: Director Research & Technical (DRT) – Ref: 1C2

 

The position reports to the Registrar/Chief Executive and is responsible providing intellectual insights and professional guidance on the Institute’s value propositions for the development of the accounting profession in Nigeria through research on topical and policy driven issues relating to economic, financial and regulatory imperatives.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership for the development of a highly effective and efficient Research and Technical Directorate ensuring response to long term needs of professional accountants
  • Initiates and undertakes research activities on topical, financial and economic issues aimed at enhancing the scope and quality of research conducted by the Institute
  • Ensures regular publication of high quality technical journals and memoirs
  • Networks with senior researchers and academics as well as with national, regional and International institutions, to ensure continued relevance of research activities and a high profile for ICAN
  • Establishes and actively maintains close links with national policy research institutes to promote research relevant to the accounting profession within their structures and frontier research into issues of interest to ICAN and its members
  • Coordinates responses to requests from organizations such as IFAC, PAFA and ABWA with respect to exposure drafts and other technical matters
  • Explores and actively identifies research funding opportunities with local and international development agencies
  • Manages the Research and Technical Directorate, including functional management and capacity building of staff in the Directorate
  • Coordinates efforts to provide thought leadership to the accountancy profession in Nigeria
  • Coordinates the Institute’s efforts at providing technical support for members
  • Relates with research institutes, academics and ICAN members IFAC, PAFA, ABWA and development

 

 

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong research, analytical and reporting ability with good communication and interpersonal skills. Success in this role demands diligence, attention to details, creative and inquiring capacity, strategic mindset and Leadership, creativity and proficiency in the use of information technology. Ability to work under pressure and demonstrated capacity to work in partnership with diverse groups while balancing the relative sensitivities are also essential skills for this role.

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of M.Sc. or equivalent in- Accounting or Economics (Ph.D or its equivalent will be an advantage)
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Minimum of ten (10) years relevant post professional qualification experience
  • Experience in leading, managing and coordinating a broad range of research in line with strategic objectives
