ToughStuff is a social enterprise that sells very inexpensive solar products designed for low-income people developing countries. We pursue ambitious sales targets to ensure profitability, while creating important social, environmental and poverty-reduction benefits.
Internationally. ToughStuff is pursuing an international Programme of Activities under the United Nations Clean Development Mechanism to certify the carbon emission reductions. This will be developed through a carbon team working throughout geographies ToughStuff is present, predominately in Africa but also Indian subcontinent.
We are seeking ambitious people to help with the CDM process for ToughStuff. This role will encompass local and regional coordination of the Carbon Group within the countries of operation in Africa.
Position: Carbon Credit Relationship Manager
Salary Range/Oracle: TBA (in $USD or local equivalent). Compensation tied to performance metrics.
Work base: Based in Nigeria
Reporting To: Group Carbon Manager
Responsible For: Local coordination and relationship management as well as helping country managers
Main Purpose of Job:
- Working with both Country Managers and Regional Managers to ensure Group tasks are met
- Maintaining relationships with local country DNA’s and other third parties
- Ensuring high quality of communication between geographically disperse employees in ToughStuff on carbon issues
- Helping with the relationships with DOEs and other experts
- Working with third parties to prepare Validation and Verification of projects
- Ensuring carbon documentation is written at a high quality and deadlines are met
- Help with correspondence with UN Executive Board and DOEs
Experience/Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering, renewable energy, environments sciences or relevant degree. Masters Degree will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 3-5 years carbon experience, including CDM or VER certification.
- You are a proactive, tenacious, ambitious business professional with a track-record for achieving ambitious goals
- Naturally inquisitive and creative; desire to continuously improve current business practices / processes; able to think and act innovatively
- Resourceful; able to achieve results in an environment that is challenging and sometimes unpredictable
- Involvement in the full project cycle of at least 10 carbon projects (CDM or voluntary)
- Proven experience in the CDM/VER project cycle and experience authoring UNFCCC documents. Experience with PoA and liaising with DOEs will be an added advantage.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Good interpersonal communicator and problem solving ability.
- Highly developed entrepreneurial spirit and thorough understanding of the carbon markets
- Responsible and resourceful individual who operates effectively without constant supervision.
- Tenacious work ethic and a sense of urgency in solving problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
- Experience in Africa and relationships with African DNAs
