The Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) initiative is a 5-year aid programme which operates alongside the PRRINN programme that focuses on strengthening routine immunization in four Northern Nigerian States. The MNCH programme aims to address the unacceptable high rates of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality in selected Northern Nigerian States. The programme is funded by the Norwegian government in partnership with the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
It is operated by a consortium of three organizations, namely: Health Partners International UK, Save the Children, UK and GRID Consulting Nigeria.
The joint programme collaborates with stakeholders in the health sector as well as civil societies to provide quantifiable improvements to the PHC systems in Northern Nigeria. PRRINN/MNCH is managed by a team of internationally recruited professionals. Its programme activities are carried out in Jigawa, Katsina, Yobe and Zamfara with coordination from the programme head office in Kano. The programme has been in operation, but seeks to recruit qualified professionals to fill the vacant position as identified below:
Position: Chief Safety and Loaistics Manager: Kano
The Chief Safety and Logistics (CSL) Manager will be based in the Kano office of the programme. S/he will report directly to the National Programme Manager and coordinate the activities of programme’s Safety and Logistics officers who work at the state level. The CSL Manager will coordinate the processes that assure general staff safety and logistics movement within the programme. This will involve participation in the design, training and implementation of a comprehensive safety procedure for the programme in all its operating states. S/he will maintain an update of on-going and proposed programme activities and logistics movements across PRRINN-MNCH states and LGAs. The CSL Manager amongst other responsibilities will ensure adequate management of information flow on general safety amongst key programme management officers.
Other key responsibilities include;
- Designing a unified systemic approach for monitoring and ensuring the general safety of all programme staff, programme partners and consultants;
- Providing a comprehensive curriculum that will be used to train the safety and logistics officers and drivers on safety methods to be adopted in the programme;
- Maintaining close relationships with professional safety operatives amongst other donor funding pogramrne’s and international agencies;
- Providing weekly and monthly safety reports for decision making by the programme management;
- Providing updated report on safety and logistics movements across the programme states to all staff, programme partners and consultants;
Qualification:
- Candidate(s) must hold a degree in Management, Logistics, Public Administration or other related disciplines.
- A minimum of 7 years working experience coordinating general logistics and safety in an organization is essential for this position. The ideal candidate must be familiar with the Northern region with the ability to communicate fluently in Hausa language. S/he must have good management, interpersonal, organization and communication skills. Previous experience in a similar role at the regional or international levels with a good knowledge of standard safety measures is required for this post.
Other key responsibilities include;
- Maintaining close relationships with professional safety operatives amongst other donor funding pogrammes’ and international agencies in the States;
- Coordinating general logistics in the states; including travel arrangements, hotel reservations, booking of venues for workshops, airport pick-ups, etc
- Coordinating drivers movements for intra- and inter-state travels and general maintenance of vehicles in line with the programme safety operations;
- Providing support in maintaining all facilities; including generators and other office equipments in the state offices;
- Serving as contact persons on safety and logistics at the state level;
Terms of Employment:
These appointments will be for a contract term of up to fifteen (15) months, with an initial 6 months probationary period. The programme offers highly competitive salary packages. However, local terms and conditions are applicable.
