Vacancies: Program Officer (RH), Administrative Assistant
The Population Council is an international, non-profit, non-governmental institution that seeks to improve well-being and reproductive health of current and future generations around the world and help achieve a human, equitable and sustainable balance between people and resources. The Council’s major program areas are HIV&AIDS, reproductive health and poverty gender, and youth. The Council conducts biomedical, social science and public health research and helps build research capacities in developing countries. The Population Council works in collaboration with a broad range of Nigerian institutions. Due to expansion of its activities, the Council is seeking qualified individuals to fill the following positions in its Abuja office:
Position: Program Officer (RH)
The successful candidate will provide technical support to administrative and field activities in the implementation of Population Council’s Maternal Mortality Reduction and Adolescent SRH Promotion Projects focused on Northern Nigeria.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have:
- Level of Education: A minimum of university degree in health sciences, and biomedical sciences, MBBS.
- General communication & interpersonal skill level Excellent
- Language requirement: English- excellent
- IT expertise required: Good
- Understanding of local communities and culture in northern Nigeria and ability to speak Hausa fluently is required
- Ability to travel within Nigeria, especially the north
- Prior experience: 5 years experience working on maternal health, youth sexual and reproductive health or similar programs
Position: Administrative Assistant
The successful candidate will provide administrative and clerical services in an effective and efficient manner that will ensure that Council operations are maintained to high standards. This position will also provide full support administrative to the Country Director.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have:
- Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree in English language/Secretarial studies, Administration or closely related field
- 2 to 4 years of relevant experience (with 1 + year of administration) or a satisfactory combination of Education and relevant experience. NGO experience desirable.
- Proficiency with office systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint);
- Knowledge of graphics is useful
- Proficiency in written and oral English.
- Excellent communications skills (e.g interpersonal, writing, presentation, negotiation)
- Organized and results-orientated
- Ability to work in complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
- Ability to work both independently and effectively with all levels of employees with minimal supervision, in addition to also functioning well as part of a team.
- Bright, confident personality, highly personable, flexible and mature.
