The Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1994 to promote the health and social well being women through action research, evidence-based advocacy, training and service delivery in reproductive health with special emphasis on girls and women. WHARC publishes a quarterly international journal, the African Journal of Reproductive Health that was rated by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2005 as the best journal in all disciplines in Nigeria that meets international standards.” WHARC works in 18 Nigerian states, with headquarters located in Benin City, Edo State. Position: Program Officers in Research and Documentation
Responsibilities
- The position holders are expected to lead and manage the research and documentation activities of the centre in adolescent reproductive health and maternal mortality prevention. She/he will direct the research activities of the centre in these areas and coordinate proposal writing/resource mobilization, project management, field work, data management/analysis, report writing and documentation. She/he will coordinate the writing of Scientific papers and be a co-author in manuscripts submitted to journals for publication. She/he will also able to attend local and international conferences independently to present research papers on behalf of the Centre.
Person Specifications
- Possession of good undergraduate or M.Sc. degrees in public health, sociology/anthropology, demography, medical geography, or any of the biological Sciences
- Deep knowledge and experience in use of ICT, including the new media is absolutely necessary
- Demonstrated track record in research and documentation, including research field work and project management
- Evidence of previous publication of scientific papers and presentations at local and international conference will be an advantage
- Must have demonstrable skill in written and interpersonal communications, and in public speaking
- A strongly motivated individual, with great drive and energy, able to work with minimal supervision is preferred.
