IITA, is an international non-profit research for development ( R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the consultative Group of international Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing  producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigeria Nationals to fill the positions below at Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

Position: Senior Research Supervisor

2 Year renewable  Contract

Duties

  • Successful candidate will among other things:
  • Supervise all seed multiplication of three way and top-cross hybrids as well as parents of these hybrids:
  • Select, prepare fertilizer application, plant pollinate and harvest
  • Organize sets of hybrid trials for shipment to partners in five countries and follow up dispatch;
  • Visit app production sites as required for effective supervision of good qualify seed multiplication of hybrids;
  • Organize required inputs, materials and supplies for all seed production sites
  • Supervise subordinates and hire temporary labour various field operations
  • Collect data analyse and prepare reports
  • Assist to manage the pass, funded and other projects in the Unit
  • Assist Scientists to maintain strict control of budget expenditures and
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

  • Candidate must possess B.Sc/HND in Agriculture plus a minimum of  5 years post qualification working experience in a similar field of research, using  computer software for data processing.
  • Candidate must be hardworking, committed and able to take initiatives
  • He/she must be  willing  to work on weekends and during holidays (with appropriate compensation).

Position: Research Supervisor

2 Year renewable Contract

Duties

  • Successful candidate will among  other things:
  • Supervise all field research activities for striga resistance and N use efficiency breeding programs
  • Handle striga and low N tolerant germplasm in the breeding nursery including planting, pollination and collect data;
  • Supervise  screening in the  laboratory and initiate new screening methods
  • Supervise  subordinates and temporary labour.
  • Collect data, analyse statistically
  • Assist to manage special projects including the Drought Tolerant Maize for Africa and Harvest Plus-Maize project
  • Carry out effective screening to transfer imazapyr resistance (TR) gene into the lowland adapted maize germplasm;
  • Assist graduate students on research projects as required
  • Assist Scientists to maintain strict control of budget expenditures and
  • Perform any other duties as  may be assigned by the  supervisor.

Qualification and  Experience

  • Candidate must possess B.Sc/HND in Agriculture with consideration working  experience in a  similar filed of research, using computer software for data processing
  • Candidate must be honest, possess good communication skills, hardworking, committed  and  able to take initiatives
  • He/she must be willing  to work on weekends and during  holidays (with appropriate compensation).

Position: Procurement Assistant

2 Year renewable Contract

Duties

  • Successful candidate will among  other things:
  • Track and follow-up purchase orders delivery and liaise  by communicating  through remarks on PO-Tracker, email facilities and telephone calls
  • Monitor outstanding Purchase orders over 45 days old on oracle and  expedite supply until closure of  the PO, keeping  requestor informed of progress at  each state
  • Consult with store to ensure prepaid but not received purchase orders are treated, particularly where overseas orders are involved;
  • Submit reports on a  regular basis as  directed  by the procurement Manager
  • Undertake other related duties as  may be assigned.

Qualification and  Experience

  • Candidate must possess National  Diploma (ND) Purchasing  and  supply or IPS II plus 5 years relevant  working experience
  • Candidate must have high stress tolerance level and ability to manage and prioritize work, be able to handle confidential issues and be willing to work beyond normal hours.
  • He/she should  also processes sound analytical mind, high integrity, good inter-personal and  communication (oral and written) skills and strong knowledge of computer office software.
