RTI International is recruiting for the following job positions for an upcoming early grade reading and education program.

 

Position: Deputy Project Director

Will oversee. supervise and guide the management aspects of an early grade reading program. S/he will support the Project Director in leading project implementation and coordinating State level project activities. The Deputy Project Director will: guide and support staff in implementing technical components: oversee general office operations, financial management, and communications information technology; and support and have overall responsibility for budgets, grants, operational plans, reporting, and procedural and financial compliance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should  have Master’s or higher degree in a related field with 12 years of relevant experience managing development programs, preferably in the education sector and in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Nigerian ministries and institutions (or those in other African countries), including the Ministry of Education, in improving the country’s education system.
  • Prior experience managing large-scale projects of US$20 million or more and familiarity with USAID management policies, procedures and reporting requirements a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, financial management and team work skills required, along with fluency in English.

 

Position: Senior Education Quality Advisor

 

Responsibilities

Will provide overall technical leadership in carrying out activities related to improving early grade reading in early primary grades by overseeing; teacher training and professional development content; teaching and learning materials development; teacher evaluation and student assessment systems; and incorporating ICT into the project’s multiple components. S/he will work collaboratively with partner Nigerian government agencies and institutions and other technical project staff to develop, implement and assess the different technical elements of the early grade reading project. The Senior Education Quality Advisor will serve on the Senior Management Team and report directly to the Project Director.

 

Qualifications

  • A Masters degree will be considered but a Ph.D. in education preferred, with at least l0 years of relevant experience in teacher education particularly at the primary grade level—and working with colleges of education
  • S/he should have experience working with Nigerian education government departments parastatal institutions and State level education offices, prior Experience managing other technical experts and staff in a development project context.
  • Other required technical competencies include experience analyzing and developing teacher training programs and materials; educational methodology and practices and options for teacher professional development; extensive knowledge of Nigeria’s education system; strong communication skills in English, with a track record of producing well-written reports to deadlines. USAID project implementation experience is a plus.
