Vacancies: Resident Doctors, Medical Officer, Senior Registrar, Nursing Officer
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Nigerian Nationals for full-time Residency Training Programme in University College Hospital, Ibadan Leading to the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons/Physicians.
A: Residency Training Programme
Positions available in the following Departments
Anaesthesia, Chemical Pathology, Clinical Pharmacology, Community Medicine, Family Medicine, Haematology, Medicine, Medical Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology , Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology (Dentistry), Periodontology & Community Dentistry ,General Dental Practice , Psychiatry , Radiology, Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Neurology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy and Orthopaedics & Trauma
The duration of the programme is 4-6 years.
Qualifications:
Prospective candidates are expected to:
- Be qualified Medical Practitioners
- Be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria
- Have passed the primary examination of any of the Postgraduate Colleges
- Have satisfactorily completed the NYSC Programme or be duly exempted by NYSC Directorate.
- Candidates are also expected to request their referees to send reports on them to the Office of the Chief Medical Director before the date of interview. Referees reports brought on the date of the interview will be discountenanced.
- Candidates applying for training in the Department of Laboratory Medicine would be required to rotate through the Departments of Pathology, Haematology, Medical Microbiology and Chemical Pathology and such candidates could only decide on an area of specialization at the end of at least the first year of rotation, subject to satisfactory appraisal by the Head of the respective Department.
- Successful candidates will be expected to commence residency training in accordance with the laid-down regulations of the Hospital. Continued retention in the Hospital Service will be dependent on satisfactory progress on the Training Programme and candidates whose work, conduct and progress are not satisfactory will be required to withdraw in accordance with the laid-down rules. Establishment of private clinics and engagement in private medical practice constitute a violation of the terms of training and any resident found guilty of these will be asked to withdraw from the Training Programme.
B: Supernumerary Appointment/Clinical Attachment
Position: Resident Doctors (Supernumerary Appointment/Clinical Attachment)
Requirements:
- Prospective candidates for Supernumerary Appointment as resident doctors and those for clinical attachment are expected to be qualified Medical Practitioners who are fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Supernumerary appointments, when offered, shall commence on 1st January 2013 while Clinical attachments will be for specific periods not exceeding one year.
- Other conditions for supernumerary appointments and clinical attachments are as follows:
(a) Documentary evidence of sponsorship from applicants’ sponsors;
(b) Payment of Training Fees.
Full Supernumerary Resident: N250.000.00 P.A
Clinical Attachments:
Between Six and Twelve Months – N250.000.00
Between Four and Five Months – N125, 000.00
Three Months – N60, 000.00
Two Months – N40, 000.00
One Month and below – N20, 000.00
(c) The applicant must be medically insured by Insurance Company acceptable to the Hospital to cover the risk of clinical liability while in training;
(d) The applicant must arrange for his or her own accommodation close to the Hospital as the Hospital Management does not normally provide accommodation for this category of staff;
(e) All applicants offered places shall be subject in all respect, to the rules and regulations governing the Residency Training Programme of the Hospital as may be stipulated from time to time by the Board of Management and/or the Residency Training Committee details of which are published in a Handbook of Residency Training.

Position: Medical Officer (Staff Medical Services)
Qualifications
Prospective candidates are expected to:
- Be qualified Medical Practitioners.
- Be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Have satisfactorily completed the National Youth Service Programme or be exempted from participating in the programme.
- Have at least a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.

Position: Senior Registrar (Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry post “Part II”)
Qualifications
Prospective candidates are expected to:
- Be qualified Medical Practitioners.
- Be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
- Have satisfactorily completed the National Youth Service Programme or be exempted from participating in the programme.
- Have a Postgraduate Professional Fellowship of the National Postgraduate, Medical College of Nigeria or the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in Psychiatry. Applicants may have also successfully completed three years in a general psychiatry programme (post part one in psychiatry) and also successfully completed all the necessary rotations needed to be eligible for the final examination in General Psychiatry.
Working experience with children within a mental healthcare setting and involvement in ongoing research in this field will be an added advantage. Applicants must be highly motivated, resourceful and dynamic and display a potential for leadership in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry/mental health.

Position: Nursing Officer
Qualification:
- Applicants must possess five credits passes in the West African School Certificate or NECO Certificate
- And also possess professional dual qualifications registrable with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria i.e. RN, RM or B. Nursing Science.
Salary:
CONHESS 07: i.e. N959, 919.00 N1, 416, 210.00p.a.

These are similar to those obtainable in the Federal Public Service.
