Position Title: Photo Journalist
Assignment Duration: 10 days
Location: Abuja
Daily rate: Negotiable and it will be based on previous documented daily consultancy rate history and qualification
University Research Company (URC) is an international organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care, social services and health education with headquarters in Bethesda Maryland USA. URC is currently implementing a project called Applying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nigeria mission. The program is designed to improve the well-being of vulnerable children and caregivers using quality improvement science methodology in Nigeria.
URC ASSIST Nigeria program is currently soliciting applications for a photo journalist on a short term consultancy basis to develop photo stories of our work at our sites in Nigeria. The primary role of the photojournalist is to be a visual storyteller.
Responsibilities:
- To take pictures that tell the story of orphans and vulnerable children at our sites
- Take photographs or film video segments of our site operations
- Process and print negatives or film
- Capture images in an authentic and ethical manner
- Write copy, captions or headlines to accompany photos
- Use image-editing software such as Photoshop to edit images using computer software
- Prepare audio to accompany video segments
- Pitch ideas and photographs to editorial staff
- Travel to photo shoot locations
- Edit photographs or video for publication specific to Internet
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of university degree related to journalism, mass communication or any other related discipline.
- An advance degree, diploma or related to photojournalism will be an added advantage
- At least a ten (10) years’ professional experience in photo journalism
- Strong in computer skills and understands how to use the relevant computer software Fluency in both written and oral English required
- Willingness to travel within Nigeria
