Vacancies: Operations Manager, Production Manager
We are a World Class Manufacturing Company with a modern automated Fabrication and Galvanizing Steel Plant in Nigeria. We currently require the services of experienced and articulate candidates to fill the following positions:
Position: Operations Manager
Qualification, Experience, Skills and Competency
- First degree or its equivalent in a business related or engineering discipline.
- Relevant postgraduate/ professional qualification in supply chain or logistics management or any other related field
- Six to eight (6-8) years relevant experience of which at least three (3) must have been in a management/supervisory capacity within procurement or logistics
- Sound knowledge of the steel industry
- Good understanding of leading practices, principles and techniques in logistics and procurement
- Advanced knowledge understanding of supply chain management principles.
- Firm understanding of existing laws and regulations governing importation
- Good knowledge of import shipping processes
- Technical knowledge of steel manufacturing equipment machinery and systems
- Well-developed communication and relationship management skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Advanced problem analysis and solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaise with the Chief Operating Officer in the development of departmental strategy, work plans and programmes
- Communicate the specific and general goals of the department to subordinates and ensure activities are aligned with the overall departmental goal and objectives
- Prepare and implement the department’s annual budget
- Liaise with the Chief Operating Officer and the Company’s legal adviser in the drafting and/review of supplier contracts.
- Advise the Chief Operating Officer on market trends and strategies to be adopted in purchasing raw materials.
- Establish and oversee compliance with company’s procurement policies and guidelines
- Monitor the purchase of materials to ensure quality and suitability for user department
- Identify strategic suppliers/vendors and develop and maintain lasting relationships/ strategic alliances to facilitate product sourcing and procurement.
- Manage price negotiations to ensure optimum value while still management overall cost exposure
- Assume overall responsibility and ensure that the quality of raw material/product/equipment procured meet specified/ agreed quality standards
- Ensure quality of procured items meets specified quality standards.
- Development and oversee proper management of relationships with third party service providers within the supply chain (such as transporters customs/ clearing agents, etc) and ensure compliance with agreed service levels.
- Oversee periodic stock-taking exercises to ensure the integrity and accuracy of stock/inventory record.
- Ensure the establishment and implementation of standard procurement policies and processes aligned with leading international practices
- Ensure compliance of suppliers with the company’s SLA and enforce sanctions an erring suppliers
- Ensure adherence to legal and financial guidelines during product/equipment/materials shipping and importation processes
- Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Establish and maintain a computerized system for tracking maintenance history of plant equipment
- Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems
- Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained and equipped in order to guarantee maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Monitor the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies and equipment and initiate re-ordering when necessary.
- Liaise with plant managers to coordinate maintenance and repair work in the plants
- Assist with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Other
Position: Production Manager
Qualification, Experience, Skills and Competency
- Bachelor’s Degree in Production Engineering or Metallurgical and Material Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years experience in industrial production environment preferably in Steel industry at least three (3) years at managerial level
- Awareness of general safety requirements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings related to design layout
- Excellent supervisory and coaching skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Well developed problem solving skills
- High attention to detail and quality
- Ability to priorities tasks
- Ability to carry out tasks with minimum supervision
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Overseeing the production process and drawing up a production schedule
- Ensuring that production is cost effective
- Making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality
- Working out the human and material resources needed
- Drafting a timescale for the job
- Estimating costs and setting the quality standards
- Monitoring the production processes and adjusting schedules as needed
- Responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment
- Monitoring product standards and implementing quality-control programmes
- Working with managers to implement company’s policies and goals
- Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed
- Reviewing the performance of subordinates
