Friends in Global Health Nigeria (FGH-N) is an affiliate of Vanderbilt institute for Global Health, Nashville. Funded by the CDC through PEPFAR, FGH-N in partnership with governments and Civil service sector organizations has been providing HIV-related services that include adult and pediatric HIV care and treatment, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), Counseling and Testing (HCT), Home-based Care and Support (HBC), adherence counselling and services for patients co-infected with HIV and tuberculosis. We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Officer with outstanding credentials, analytical capability and communication skills. The individual must be able to function independently and flexibly with strong commitment to excellence. The Lab Officer will work under primary supervision of the office of Director of Medical Services and secondarily with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO).
Position: Laboratory Officer
Specific Job/Responsibilities:
Coordinate laboratory issues of FGH-N in service states including training of FGH partners including support health facilities on forecasting lab equipments, reagents and supplies.
- Coordinate FGH-N work with the Government of Nigeria/United States Government Lab to provide support to participating FGH-N facilities.
- Ensure logistical management systems envisioned will be adapted to existing national infrastructure.
- Collect, synthesize and transmit data and information related to laboratory at all FGH associated Point of Service as an input into forecasting future needs to the CTO and Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (Nashville).
- Develop and strengthen lab reagents and supply procurement system with all implementing partners.
- Maintain documentation of all work and decision making processes under FGH-N laboratory portfolio for country level communication.
- Contribute to FGH-N quarterly and annual program reports on the ART initiative.
- Work with POS facilities to implement laboratory related improvements and recommendations identified during assessments.
- Work with relevant partnership members to determine necessary products for use in ART service facilities.
- Document Ministry of Health Guidelines and Protocols for Laboratory.
- Establish systems and mechanisms in Nigeria for the acquisition and delivery of lab reagents and supplies that are most appropriate to the needs of implementing partners (POS)
- Establish QA/QC systems in all FGH-N supported laboratories in line with national and relevant international guidelines.
- Other duties that may be assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have a University degree in any Laboratory Science, preferably related to Chemistry and/or Hematological /immunological analysis.
- A Masters Degree or additional qualification will be an added advantage.
- Be a Certified/Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (AIMLS).
- Have minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory role.
