Position: Research Clinicians (IPV Clinical Trials)
The MRC Unit. The Gambia is the Council’s largest establishment conducing medical research in a developing country. The Unit aims to improve the health of people in low-income countries by excellence in multi-disciplinary research programmes.
We are undertaking a clinical trial that aims to identify interference between IPV and the other vaccines recommended at nine months of age either worldwide (measles and rubella combined vaccine) or in endemic settings (yellow fever vaccine). It will also confirm the safety of giving these vaccines together and compare the administration of IPV using needle-free ‘jet-injection’ devices with administration using the standard needle and syringe route.
We are looking for Research Clinicians to provide clinical care to study participants, adequate documentation, and supervise the field work according to study protocol. The post-holder will conduct surveillance for morbidity and mortality among study participants and liaise with the local trial and safety monitors.
We seek someone with:
Essential
- MBBS.
- Practical experience of health research in developing countries.
- Previous experience in conducting clinical trials.
- Experience of staff management
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Commitment to working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication
- A flexible and well-organized approach to work and an ability to meet deadlines.
- Attentiveness to detail
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Willingness to be on-call and work outside the normal working hours.
Desirable
- FWACP Part 1 or equivalent.
- Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- FWACP Part 2.
- Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Word Excel, Access)
The salary attached to the post is in occupational group E1/E2 dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for E1 is from 589,057 Dalasis per annum to 806, 799 Dalasis per annum after tax. This converts to a salary range of $17, 583 – $24 083 per annum after tax using the current Dalasis/USD exchange rate. If you have your FWACP Part 2 the salary will be in Occupational Group E2 at a salary range of between 822, 357 Dalasis to 1, 040, 084 annum after tax. This converts to a salary range of $24,547 – $31,047 per annum after tax using the current Dalasis/USD exchange rate. Please note, however, that the salary package is paid in Dalasis and the USD figure quoted is just given as a guide.
For displaced staff the package will include furnished accommodation, flights, contribution to school fees for children and other benefits.
The appointments will be for 12 months.
