The C-Change project supports the communication component of the Nigeria national HIV and AIDS response at four levels:
a) strengthening and improving the ability of the to coordinate the National HIV/AIDS response;
b) building the capacity of Kogi and Cross River State Agency for the their respective responses;
c) Strengthening in-country Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) implementation capacity through direct training/monitoring of USG implementing Partners (IPs) and NGOs as well as through integration of SBCC training into tertiary schools;
d)Improve the media response to HIV/AIDS through training/mentoring of journalists and capacity building for media houses. C-Change, Nigeria’s scope has expanded to include demand creation support to the National Accelerated Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) initiative as well as communication support to the Malaria Action Program for State (MAPS) project.
Title of Position: Deputy Chief of Party
Location: Based in Abuja (with up to 50% travel)
Supervisor: Chief of Party (COP), C-Change Nigeria project
Position Summary:
Generally, the Deputy Chief of Party would be responsible for the day to day implementation and provide technical leadership in HIV/AIDS activities related to nutritional Care and support.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct .supervision of the Chief of Party (COP), the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will:
- Ensure that the technical component of C-Change Nigeria is evidence-based and in line with provisions of the award and agreed work plan
- Provide technical inputs and direction in the following activities; SBCC’ capacity building for USG and local NGO partners; provide SBCC Coordination capacity building for NACA & SACA’s;
- Provide evidence-based community level SBCC interventions
- Provide IPC capacity building for health care providers in C-Change states;
- Coordinate ongoing and new institutionalization of SBCC in tertiary institutions in collaboration with Ohio University partners;
- Provide HIV/AIDS SBCC capacity building for journalists in collaboration with Internews
- Design and deliver multi-media HIV prevention campaign
- Support monitoring and evaluation of C-Changc processes and activities
- facilitate the preparation and finalization of Project Reports ( Quarterly,
Mid-term and annual)
- Promote cooperation with the Nigeria Government and other allies, partners and stakeholders
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief of Party
Qualifications
- Masters’ degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Communications and other relevant field;
- A minimum of 7 years previous work experience preferably in International Development
- 5 – 7 years experience designing and implementing advocacy and community mobilization programs at regional and national levels.
- Must be able to initiate and lead program activities in collaboration with colleagues and with support from COP;
- Sound and demonstrated project management experience;
- Sound and demonstrated training skills;
- Working knowledge of USAID’s performance monitoring and evaluation methodologies and indicators;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
- Ability to be productive and flexible with work load;
- Strong team building and networking skills and experience;
- Strong internet and computer software skills including MS Office suit programs.
