 Africare, a US, based NGO established in 1970, has been working in Nigeria since 1978 and is currently operating community-based development projects in 19 African countries. Africare has long standing experience in the design and delivery of technical, training, material and financial assistance to self-help efforts in the fields of Health, HIV & AIDS: Agriculture & Food Security: Water, Sanitation & Hygiene: Natural Resource Management: Micro-enterprise: Civil-Society Strengthening: and Good Governance. Health programs are important to Africare’s work in virtually all countries where it operates and constitute about half of Africare’s overall development assistance efforts. In Nigeria, Africare’s has its main office in Lagos and field offices in Abuja, Asaba Port Harcourt, Uyo and Benin, with smaller satellite offices in Bayelsa and Cross Rivers State.

 

Africare Nigeria is looking to hire program officers to fill positions in Abuja, Benin and Lagos as two new projects commence. The Youth Life Skills Development Project will engage secondary school students in a program that leverages sports to teach literacy, health and social development skills. The program is a one year pilot with expectation for further funding

 

The Malaria Control and Health Promotion in Flood Affected Populations Project aims to reduce the prevalence and mortality lelaled to malaria in communities in Kogi, Edo and Delta states Specific targets relate to the use of LLINs, ACTs, RDS and IRS in line with the National Malaria Control Program targets from the 2009-2013 National Strategy. This is a six month initial intervention

Position: Finance Assistant supporting both projects

 

Location: Lagos

 

The Finance Assistant works under the supervision of the State Project Officer and Senior Finance Officer by assisting in the maintenance and tracking of all Africare/Nigeria expenditure, leave and other financial or project related matters

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with relevant experience.
  • At least two years of experience in working in finance with a company, government agency or International NGO (preferred)
  • Demonstrated developing activity budgets, Understanding of office procedures and operations, including standard banking, procurement, and maintenance needed., Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks will be an advantage.

 

Position: Project Drivers-3 Positions

 

Locations: Abuja (1) and Benin (2)

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of Secondary School Certificate required
  • At least 3 years driving experience required
  • Possession of current Nigeria Driver’s license required
  • Excellent day and night vision
  • Knowledge of Nigerian road and state network
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Nigeria safety driving rules, signs and regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills on safety driving techniques
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Ability to read and write simple English
  • Must not indulge in alcohol, drugs or other habit forming substances

 

Position: State Project Officers for the Malaria Control and Health Promotion in Flood Affected Populations Project (MCHP-FAP) 2 Positions

 

Location: Edo and Delta

Timeline: September 2013 -February 2014

 

Office Location: Benin, Edo State with reasonable amounts of travel expected to Kogi and Delta states.

 

Overall Responsibilities:

The MCHP-FAP Project Officers will coordinate the distribution of malaria control commodities to health facilities in the selected communities and work closely with primary health care facilities and community-based stakeholder groups to build greater awareness and adherence to prevention, control, and treatment approaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Social Sciences, Mass Communications, Management, Marketing, Humanities or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in developing, implementing and reporting for community programs focused on health, including malaria and other services to women and children
  • Strong familiarity with communities and community health systems in Delta, Edo and/or Kogi states
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the public sector, community groups, government agencies and civil society groups.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with proficiency (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension) in English
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management qualities including crisis and conflict management and mediation.
