Vacancies: Scientific Officer, Research Technician, Driver
ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development established in 1972, it is an alliance of centers of the Consultative Group on international Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet pigeon pea, chickpea, and groundnut in semi-arid tropics. With headquarters in patancheru, Andhera Pradesh, india, and West and Central Africa regional office in Bamako, ICRISAT seeks applications for the following post for its station in Kano, Nigeria.
Position: Scientific Officer
Responsibilities:
- To supervise on-station and on-farm farmer participatory action research trials in different parts of northern Nigeria and Niger.
- To travel within the participating communities and providing technical assistance to farmers, farmer groups, NGOs, extension agents, government agencies in the communities.
- Assist scientists to design, conduct and manage screen house and field trials.
- To interest with the farmers, researchers, processors, marketers, and other partners in the agricultural value chains and in the different innovation platforms.
- To record scientific data, collecting of the information about the farmers and groups
- Undertake data entry analysis and scientific reporting of research outputs
- Supervise field workers and other support staff.
- Assist with the procurement and distribution of input for trials.
- Assist in training of extension agents, lead farmers, students and visiting trainees.
- Carry out any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- A minimum of MSc in Agriculture/Agronomy/Plant Breeding /Agricultural Economics or related discipline).
- Three (3) years of post-qualification experience in agricultural research organizations.
- Demonstrated computer skills (especially word processing, spreadsheet and power point) and good knowledge of statistics and experimental design.
- Interest and ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
- Candidate must be honest, hardworking and willing to work weekends and holidays.
- Willingness to travel as per needs of the job
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with pleasing personality
- Fluency in Hausa or French languages is an added advantage.
- Demonstrate skills in writing of scientific articles are an added advantage.
- Possession of valid driving license.
Position: Research Technician
Responsibilities:
- To supervise on-station and on-farm farmer participatory action research trials
- To travel within the participating communities and providing technical support to men and women groups. lead farmers in the communities
- Assist scientists to conduct and manage screen house and filed trails
- To interact with the farmers, researchers and ICRISAT partners.
- To record scientific data, collecting of the information about the farmers and groups
- Undertake data entry and analysis
- Supervise held worked and other support staff.
- Assist in training of extension agents, lead farmers, students and visiting trainees
- Carry out any other task assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
- A minimum of B.Sc in Agriculture and related discipline
- Three (3) years of post – qualification experience in agricultural research organization
- Demonstrated computer skills (especially word processing and spreadsheet) and a good knowledge of statistics and experimental design
- Interest and ability to work in multi – disciplinary and multi – cultural teams
- Candidates must be honest, hardworking
- Willingness to travel as per needs of the job
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with pleasing personality

Position: Driver
Responsibilities:
- Drive ICRISAT staff and partners in and outside Nigeria
- To maintain the cleanliness of ICRISAT official vehicles
- Serve as messenger for the ICRISA Kano
- Handle photocopy and reprography service for the office
- Handle any other duties that may be assigned by supervisors
Requirements
- Possession of valid driving license (class e)
- A minimum of WASC/GCE/NECO leaving certificate
- Five (5) years of experience in international organizations
- Experience in driving in states in Northern Nigeria
- Interest and ability to work in multi – cultural teams
- Candidates must be honest, hardworking and punctual
- Willingness to travel as per needs of the job
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with pleasing personality
- Fluency in Hausa Language
