Vacancies: Accounting Assistant, Field Assistant/ Drivers
Background:
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the positions below. These positions are funded by African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC)
IITA is an international non-profit research for development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub- Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to eliminate hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.
Position: Accounting Assistant
2 year renewable contract
The Accounting Assistant will work as a member of the SARD-SC project team in Nigeria
Primary Duties:
- Preparation of payments vouchers/advices, petty cash payment vouchers, journals vouchers etc.
- Handling of blank cheques during working hours and also writing cheques.
- Maintain advances and assets registers for the project
- Handling of Oracle AP and GL responsibilities and carry out data entries activities
- Keeping books of prime entries and reconcile statement of account of suppliers
- Responding to queries from suppliers and service providers
- Organize and maintain files on financial transactions
- Providing linkage with procurement processes in the project
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by your Supervisor
Qualification and Experience
- OND in Accountancy/Business Studies or ICAN Foundation or AAT III plus at least 3 years’ relevant working experience in Accounting
- Be honest, trustworthy and hardworking.
- Be a good team player with demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Have sound analytical mind.
- Be willing to put in extra hours when the need arises.
- Good knowledge of computer spreadsheet. Oracle application and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point)
- Good command of the English language.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment.
- Ability to handle stress effectively and remain focused.
Position: Field Assistant/ Drivers
2 year renewable contract
The Drivers/Field workers will work as members of the SARD-SC project team in Nigeria
Primary Duties:
- Drive Scientists and other research staff to research locations
- Participate actively in the conduct of research experimentations at different sites
- Convey research materials to all research and development locations
- Assist in the planting and harvesting of maize trials.
- Ensure that vehicles are property maintained
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor
Qualification and Experience
- Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Crop Production General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable
- Minimum experience of 2 years in a similar position
- Possession of a valid driving license
- Good time management
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
- Team player
General Information: Initial appointment is for two years. Subsequent renewal of the contract will be decided based on research outputs and productively, and continued need for the position.
