IITA is an international non-profit research for development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub- Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to eliminate hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

 

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the following positions at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

 

Position: Laboratory Analyst

2 year renewable contract

Duties:

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

  • Carry out quality control and comprehensive physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of raw water, potable water, swimming pool water and Sewage water at Water treatment plant.
  • Carry out Jar test to assist the operators in determine appropriate chemical dosage of raw water.
  • Determine quality of chemicals before purchase.
  • Initiate purchase of laboratory equipment and reagents.
  • Team up with the operators to carry out operation of the plants.
  • Generate laboratory reports on daily weekly and monthly basis
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualification and Experience

  • B.Sc/ HND in Science Laboratory Technology or related field plus three (3) years relevant post-qualification working experience.

  • Must have a very good knowledge of laboratory analysis of water
  • Must have a very good knowledge of water treatment plant, swimming and sewage system.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Be honest and hardworking.
  • Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions.
  • Be able to work under pressure.

 

Position: Mechanic III

Duties

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

  • Carry out maintenance and repairs at water treatment plant, swimming pool plant, sewage treatment plant and pumping stations.
  • Install and maintain multi vertical turbine and surface pumps and blowers
  • Maintain associated appliance such as aerators, as aerators, and valves;
  • Install and maintain carbon filters, sand filters, sedimentation tanks and reservoirs:
  • Carry out other duties that may be assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualification and Experience

OND/Trade Test in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus (5) years relevant post-qualification working experience. The candidate must

  • Must have a very good knowledge of general repairs, fittings and plumbing
  • Must have a very good knowledge of water treatment.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Be honest and hardworking.
  • Be a good team player and be able to follow instructions.
  • Be able to work under pressure,
