Country Director (CD) at Concern Universal (CU)

Concern Universal (CU) seeks a dynamic, high calibre motivated and high achieving individual to fill this key role in the organisation.

CUs Nigeria programme works in partnership with communizes, local, state and federal governments, and civil society organizations (CSOs) in four reighbouring states of Akwa Ibow, Benue, Cross River and Ebonyi Current areas of intervention  include water, sanitation and hygiene; gender and human rights, environment and livelihoods, and governance and advocacy. In recent years we spent more than £1 million per annum on implementing community-based interventions in Nigeria.

Position: Country Director (CD)

The Country Director (CD) is responsible for approx 25 staff members. She, working with a qualified and experienced Senior Management Team, will have a crucial role in leading, motivating and inspiring the lca’n

CU operates a highly decentralized structure and the CD will be expected to take a lead role in managing and developing the programme with light touch management from the International Funding Coordinator based in The UK. However, s/he will have ample support from the team in the UK whenever s/he needs it.

 

Our relationship with the federal, state are local governments in Nigeria CSOs, in-country and external donors and other partners are paramount to our work and the CD plays a pivota role in nurturing and growing these important relationships. Our key current donor partners in Nigeria include AusAID, the European Commission, the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (Global Sanitation Fund; Japanese Embassy and PZ Cussons Foundation.

 

The CO will be based in Calabar where our main Nigerian office is located Substantial local and occasional international travel will be required.

 

The two short to medium-term highest priorities for the CD are supporting the implementation of an exciting and challenging sanitation and hygiene project funded by the Global Sanitation Fund and developing three to five-year projects under each of the four programme areas mentioned above

 

A suitable candidate will have

  • Excellent understanding of international development issues
  • Proven leadership, representation and communication skills
  • All round programme development and management skills
  • Proven experience of multiple donor grant management and reporting to major donors
  • At least a postgraduate degree level qualification in a relevant discipline
